Aigantighe Art Gallery exhibition June 2010

I exhibited three paintings at the Aigantighe Art Gallery, Timaru NZ in June.  I last exhibited there in 1994 so I was delighted to be invited back.

There are more images of the show pictures and painting process on my blog.

 Loquat and ginger jar

Loquat and ginger jar

Watercolour on Saunders Waterford paper.
Size 57cm h x 39 cm w

On one very wet night in November I attended an open studio at May St Studios in St Peters.  On leaving I noticed tbe dark glossy leaves of the loquat tree and a couple of late fruits still clinging to the branches.

I thought the ginger jar made a good visual partner to the dark green leaves and orange fruit.

 Good luck crab

Good luck crab

watercolour, pencil and collage on sewn paper.

Size 57cm h x 39 cm w approx.

The crab is from Sydney fish markets, teacup from Marrickville, Thai ceramic platter from Chatuchak Market, Bangkok - surviving countless house moves.

Having painted a few crabs over the years I am always surprised at the pattern variations of swimmer crabs,

 Amaryllis 2

Amaryllis 2

Watercolour on Saunders Waterford paper.

Size 57cm h x 39 cm w approx.

From the Chinese fruiterer on Regent St, Redfern.
I bought these as three stems of buds.  I didn't believe they would actually bloom but within a week they had opened and ripened into these gorgeous, lush flowers.

Very tropical looking for an end of winter flower.
